Enhance Your Smile Aesthetics with Gummy Smile Treatment
How does a gummy smile occur?
A gummy smile occurs when excessive gum tissue is visible when you smile, and your teeth appear short. Usually, the teeth are actually regular in length, but the extra gum tissue gives the impression of shorter teeth and an unbalanced, “gummy” smile.
As periodontists, Dr. Ovadia and Dr. Tanur are specialists in gum treatment and are the specialists many general dentists refer their patients to for excellence in gummy smile treatment. They employ gentle, conservative methods to achieve long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing results for your gums and smile.

Gummy Smile Correction: Crown Lengthening
To correct a gummy smile, Dr. Ovadia and Dr. Tanur use a procedure called “crown lengthening.” Crown lengthening removes excess gum tissue to expose more of the natural tooth structure. The procedure typically takes about an hour, and our team ensures your comfort throughout the treatment.
An added benefit to crown lengthening is improved oral hygiene, as you will have better access for brushing and flossing.
Minimally Invasive Treatment
The doctors begin by creating guides to design your new gumline precisely. Using a minimally invasive laser, they remove and reshape the gum tissue around your teeth. Laser treatment offers greater precision, minimal impact on surrounding tissues, and faster healing. The new gums will have the normal pink color and will integrate smoothly with the rest of your gum tissue.
If needed, the doctors will also reshape the bone around your teeth to prevent gum regrowth. This gives you an attractive smile that lasts.

Experts in Gum Treatment
Dr. Tanur and Dr. Ovadia are both diplomates of the American Board of Periodontology, an honor earned by only about 10 percent of periodontists. They are experts in cosmetic gum treatment and creating aesthetic smiles. They use state-of-the-art technology and minimally invasive techniques whenever possible.
The doctors are the only private periodontists in our area who speak fluent Spanish, giving them a broader reach to help more people.

Functional Crown Lengthening
In addition to correcting a gummy smile, crown lengthening is used to create more space for a crown or filling.
By reshaping the gum and bone, Dr. Tanur and Dr. Ovadia ensure there’s enough tooth structure available for your dentist to place a crown or fill a cavity and properly seal the edges, which prevents bacteria from entering and causing gum inflammation.
